MELROSE PLACE - SEASON TWO OPENING THEME
September tends to imply new beginnings. It’s the time when school starts up again, people move to a new locale for a fresh start, and the new TV season begins.
The show Melrose Place, in its inception, embodied a simple concept, one which I am not foreign to - MP was about a group of people around the same age, who lived in an apartment building (with a nice pool in the center). Season 1 wasn’t received very well. It was too safe and needed an oomph.
That’s why the theme I have chosen above is the one from Season Two, when Heather Locklear joined the series as a Special Guest Star. To me this is when the show really began, when Heather Locklear, as Amanda Woodward, moved in the building and started stirring up trouble. In the real world, maybe such a person exists, but in all the apartment buildings I have lived in, I’ve never met anyone who I considered to be the trouble maker - at least not to the same extremes as Ms. Woodward. There were other trouble makers who eventually moved in the building: Laura Leighton as Sydney, and Marcia Cross as Dr. Kimberly Shaw. I am just realizing that the red-heads didn’t last as long as the “blonde” one.
I just moved into a new building this month and I hope my experiences in the building will be of the Season 1 variety: Boring and predictable. At the end of the day, I’m just a person who wants to be in bed by 9:30pm on weekdays.
Fun points:
1. Courtney Thorne-Smith’s hair. Talk about volume!
2. Grant Show opening the fridge. Need I say more?
3. Daphne Zuniga - I just love that name and it’s been used in many games of Celebrity. People have no idea who she is so it’s fun to see them squirm.
